Ethan- I didn’t know what to expect going into the 3DS program. At first I thought I was going to help design a product from purely a business perspective. As our design got more specific, however, I was able to integrate my programming skills to create a functional prototype. Coming from a computer science background, I felt like a valuable member of the team. It was a great experience using my skills and learning new ones at the 2013 Brandeis 3DS, and I look forward to coming back next year.
The first year 3DS came to Brandeis it was undoubtedly the highlight of my semester. Every year after, I’m amazed at the energy, commitment and passion that students from numerous backgrounds bring to the weekend. At 3DS I have met mentors, made close friends and prototyped innovative companies. If you enjoy challenges and excitement, I highly recommend Brandeis 3DS.
For me, the 3 Day Startup Challenge was a way to further explore ideas I was interested in outside of the classroom. It gave me a chance to meet a tremendously interesting and diverse group of people from the greater Brandeis community, and spend 3 days learning and exchanging really cool ideas with others. Finally, entrepreneurs know how costly, time and finances, a start-up can be so why not take advantage of this unique opportunity to share knowledge and learn for free!!!
What I loved most about 3DS was the process of developing an idea and bringing it to fruition. I enjoyed the multidisciplinary aspects of the event because it required us to use skills learned in class such as marketing and consumer segmentation, revenue models, and the art of effective presentations. 3DS is a good way in which to use all the various elements learned at business school. I would recommend it to anyone interested in applying skills acquired in the classroom to real world situations.
